Crossword 109 – Back to School

It may be the summer holidays right now, but Code Nine is going back to school. I can practically smell the chalk dust in the air as I type and the theme from Grange Hill is going round and round in my head as I write. Doctor Who has had a remit to educate from its inception, and surely, the inclusion of schools and universities in its stories reflect that mission. Featuring schools also plays to one of Doctor Who’s strengths – making the ordinary and mundane seem weird and threatening. How would you know if your teachers were really aliens? I’ve had a few like that! Well, this week, we are looking at schools in Doctor Who, from Coal Hill to the University of Darlington. Don’t be late or you’ll get detention! – Code Nine x
